Description of manuscript content:
Nyòt Tham (Oeak of the Dhamma) in Lao, or Cundasukarika Sutta in Pali, contains four fascicles. The manuscripts are popularly read by four monks during the nyottham ceremony which is organized in a monastery or a house. The content describes the merit to be derived from paying homage and listening to the Cundasukarika Sutta in the way Dhammika Bandit had done it. Through the merit's power, a miracle of lighting happened in the Tavatimsa Heaven. When Indra acknowledged this he sent Mataliputta to take Dhammika to heaven and to ask him about his practice.
Colophon:
Folio 31 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat thousand 270 (correspond to CS 1270), a kat sai year, on the fifth waxing day of the fourth [lunar] month, the third day of the week (Tuesday). The writing of this manuscript had been finished at the time of the morning drum (7.30–9.00 o’clock). Phò and Mae I Chan (Father and mother of Mrs. Chan) were the principal initiators together with their children, parents and all relatives had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of these manuscripts entitled Chodokkasetthi and Chunthasukarikasut, to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5 thousand years. May all our wishes and desires be fulfilled. Sādhu anumodhāmi (Well done! We say amen.)
