Description of manuscript content:
While the Buddha was dwelling in Kapilavatthu, he delivered a sermon to his disciples describing Dāna (alms-giving) and Sīla (morality). The results of alms-giving and observing the precepts depend on the practitioners. Those who wish to gain lokiya (mundane) results such as becoming a king, an affluent, God Indra, Brahma or an emperor, their wishes are regarded as carelessness because they follow their own cravings. If they wish to gain lokuttara (supra-mundane) results such as Nirvana, they are regarded as careful.
Colophon:
Folio 36 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat (CS) 1294, a kat hao year, on the tenth day of the waning moon of the sixth [lunar] month, Thursday, at noon (10:30–12:00), the writing of this manuscript was finished. Phò-òk (lay man) Peng and his wife Mae-òk (lay woman) Thi together with their children and grandchildren had jointly the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Maha Munlanipphan to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5 thousand years. May the benefits derived from this merit support me in this life and other lives in the future. May I enter the Nirvana.
