Description of manuscript content:
The Pabbajā or ordination ceremony is one of the Sangha formal acts. The Buddha formulated the regulations for the ceremony. In the Buddha’s lifetime, a brahman who had killed his mother (matricide) came to the Sangha and asked for being ordained as a monk for the purpose of escaping his crime. The Buddha formulated the regulations by adding an exlusion of people who had conducted matricide.
Colophon:
Folio 26 on the recto side: Culasakkarat (CS) 1257, a hap mot year, on the second day of the waxing moon of the second [lunar] month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), a kat khai, at the time of the morning drum (7:30–9:00), the writing of this manuscript was finished. Sitthipanya together with his parents, children, wife and all siblings were the principal initiators to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Banphasavinisai to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of five thousand years. May this be a gateway and a condition for me to achieve the supermandane property definitely. Whenever I have not yet achieved the supermandane perfect-ness, may this [merit] be like a blackboard (supporter) to support me to escape from all the four stages of misery. In the rounds of rebirth, may this be a condition for me to fulfill all worldly wishes. Nibbāna paccayo hotu me mettaiya santike niccaṃ dhuvaṃ dhuvaṃ.
