Description of manuscript content:
This manuscript consists of 3 texts that contain Arabic grammar, Arabic poetry on the flattery of poets that cannot be expressed in words, and Arabic poetry on Arabic prosody. Text 2: This text contains the knowledge of Arabic grammar consisting of syntax and morphology in the form of 1002 nazams. Text 3: The text is a description of the poet's self, which is like a string of words that cannot be expressed perfectly. The poet is recognising his own imperfections. Text 4: This text contains 16 Arabic kasidahs that explain the different wazans in Arabic poetry.
Other notes:
- On page 2r there is a statement that this manuscript was given by someone (name illegible because the paper is perforated) to Habib Alwi bin Abdullah (Habib Abdullah's father) on Rabī' al-Awwal 1282 AH/August 1865 AD. - There are stamps of Rabithah Alawiyah and Jamiat Kheir. Text: 1: This text contains marginal notes explaining one naẓam (poem) in Al-Balīgh fī al-Ma'ānī wa al-Bayān wa al-Badī'. Some of the other marginal notes are not related to the naẓam of Al-Balīgh fī al-Ma'ānī wa al-Bayān wa al-Badī'. 2: This text contains marginal notes to explain and elaborate on the nazam Alfīyah ibn Mālik. Page 004r contains the text of the Alfīyah which was presumably detached from the binding, hence the text became the first page of the manuscript when it was digitised. 4: In the marginal notes of this text there is information attributing to the Messenger of Allah the birthdays of the prophets and Islamic figures of the past. In addition, there is praise for a person named ‘Abd al-Qādir.
