Description of manuscript content:
While residing at the Buppharam Monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha talked to King Pasenadi about the merit derived from making flags to worship the Triple Gem. The Buddha gave an example: during the time of Vipassi Buddha, a poor couple who had the most ardent religious faith in the Triple Gem made a flag in order to worship the Triple Gem. While preparing the flag, the husband suddenly died and, because of his faith, he went to the Tavatimsa Heaven as a divinity and possessed a huge amount of heavenly treasures.
Colophon:
Folio 6 on the verso side: In BE 2518, a hap mao year, on the twelfth day of the waning moon of the tenth [lunar] month, a Thursday, at 16:15, the writing of this manuscript was finished. Pha Phui Thiracitto, the abbot of Vat Pha Maha That Rajabovoravihan and the Chao Khana Tasaeng of Vat That (the ecclesiastical head of the sub-district of Vat That), Luang Prabang municipal, was the sponsor and the scribe of this manuscript. May I dedicate the merit to beneficiaries and all being creature such as siblings and parents. May the power of merit support all of them to reach the happiness stage. Suddhinaṃ dhamma dānaṃ āsavak khayāvahaṃ hotu anāgate kāle nibbānaṃ paramaṃ suddhaṃ hotu anāgate kāle (May the benefit of giving Dhamma be a condition for us to be released from defilements and reach Nirvana which is the greatest bliss, constantly and certainly).
