Description of manuscript content:
While residing at the Buppharam monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha talked to King Pasendi Kosala about the benefits derived from worshiping the Triple Gem with a flag. The Buddha gave an example: in the time of Vipassi Buddha, a troubled couple who had the most ardent religious faith made a flag in order to worship the Triple Gem. During preparing the flag, the husband suddenly died and because of his faith he entered the Tavatimsa Heaven as a divinity and possessed a huge amount of heavenly treasures.
Colophon:
Folio 8 on the verso side: In BE 2518, a huang mao year, on the ninth day of the waxing moon of the eleventh [lunar] month, a Tuesday, at 16:20, [the writing was finished]. Pha Phui Thiracitto, the abbot of Vat Pha Maha That Rajabovoravihan, and Chao Khana Tasaeng of Vat That (the ecclesiastical head of the sub-district), municipal of Luang Prabang, were the sponsor and the scribe of this manuscript. May the benefits derived from this merit be a condition to reach Nirvana. Nibbāna paramaṃ sukhaṃ hotu anāgate kāle (Nirvana is the greatest bliss).
