Description of manuscript content:
While residing at the Buppharam Monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha talked to King Pasendi about the merit derived from making flags to worship the Triple Gem. The Buddha gave an example; during the time of Vipassi Buddha, a poor couple who had the most ardent religious faith in the Triple Gem made a flag in order to worship the Triple Gem. While preparing the flag, the husband suddenly died and because of his faith he went to the Tavatimsa Heaven as a divinity and possessed a huge amount of heavenly treasures.
Colophon:
Folio 6 on the recto side: In BE 2518, a hap mao year, on the fifth day of the waxing moon of the eleventh [lunar] month, a Friday, at noon (10:30–12:00), [the writing was finished]. Pha Phui Thiracitto, the abbot of Vat Pha Maha That Rajabovoravihan, the Chao Khana Tasaeng of Vat That (the ecclesiastical head of the sub-district), municipal of Luang Prabang, was the sponsor and the scribe of the making of this manuscript. May the benefits of this merit be a condition to reach Nirvana in the future lives. Nibbāna paccaya hotu no anãgate kale (May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana).
