This manuscript is the first of 26 volumes titled “Lie Eng Cun.” It is a folk tale that tells the story of I Leng Cung feeling deeply concerned after hearing the story of what happened to her, to the point that she wanted to sell herself, but Lie Cung forbade her.
Other notes:
- The writing is dominated by the Lontarak Makassarese script, with some characters modified by Liem Kheng Yong, and features a combination with Hanzi.
- Initially, this manuscript was rented out to the Peranakan Chinese community.
- It is adapted from a Chinese folk legend.
- There is a red stamp of the author that reads: “LIEM KHENG YONG-MAKASSAR.”
- Several pages at the beginning of the manuscript are torn. The intact sheets begin on page 7 in the text.
- There is no date of authorship on the manuscript.
