Description of manuscript content:
Thanakhan or Dānaka means "Alms-giving" and is the third episode of the 13 episodes of the Vessantara Jātaka. Thanakhan ban ton is the first part of the episode. The text describes the great alms-giving of Vessantara. Before leaving his kingdom to go to Mount Vamka, Prince Vessantara distributed many things as gifts known as "Satta jataka mahā dāna" (seven kinds of alms-gifts) including elephants, horses, carts, servants, dairy cows, male and female slaves, 700 each. Then Prince Vessantara, his wife Maddī and his two children, Jali and Kanha, left the kingdom to arrive Mount Vamka.
Colophon:
Folio 13 on the recto side: The writing of this manuscript was at noon (10:30–12:00). May I be born as a good and intelligent person in the next lives. May I meet the Enlightened one. The handwriting is not so beautiful, do not laugh at me. My hands were rough because of never touching breasts of divorced girls. The making of this manuscript is to support the Teachings of the Buddha. The manuscript belongs to Vat Nong. Ai (Mr.) Chant from Vat Nong was the scribe.
