One day, Ānanda saw the skin of the Buddha was so dried and wrinkled and full of moles. He then asked the Buddha what happened? The Buddha said he was too old now and nearly passed away. The body was like an old chariot. When it went on a rough road many times, its spares would fall apart. Therefore, young people should perform meritorious acts as much as they could such as giving Dāna, observing Sīla, practising meditation, generating loving-kindness. They should remind themselves about the impermanence of the body, and the only thing that can be carried with them is merit. If they did many bad deeds, they would be reborn in hell. In contrast, if they did good deeds, they would be reborn in the realm of heaven.
