Description of manuscript content:
Matthi or Maddī, Princess Maddi, the Vessantara’s consort, is the ninth section and 12th fascicle in the Vessantara Jataka. When Princess Maddi goes away for fruits. As she is returning she finds her way barred by three fierce animals including a lion, a tiger and a leopard. Having known that Jujaka was away with her two children. By the time, three beasts sent by Indra let her pass. When Maddi arrives back at the hermitage having found no children anywhere. She inquiries from her husband what has happened to them. But he keeps silent. She is very upset, burst into tears and falls down.

Folio 14 on the recto side: In the Buddhist Era (BE) 2483, a hwai si year, on the third waxing day of the fourth [lunar] month, a Monday, a hwai sanga day, [the writing was finished]. Mae (Mother) Thongdee was the principle initiator and together with her children had the religious faith to find some palm-leaves and to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Matthi (Maddi) to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until entering the crystal city which is Nirvāna. Moreover, may I meet the Buddha named Pha Ariya Metteya (Maitreya) who will emerge in the future. Niccaṃ niccaṃ dhuvaṃ nibbāna paccayo hotu no (May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvāna, contantly and certainly).The writing of this mamuscript was finished at the time of the morning drum (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock).
