A wealthy family had a son named Sumedha who was a solitary man. When his parents passed away, he got all the inheritance. However, he donated it all and became a hermit living in a forest. One day, he saw a group of people clearing up a street when he was flying on the way to get fruits. He asked them and was told that they were preparing the street for welcoming the Buddha. He volunteered to join the preparation. However, when the Buddha arrived, the street in his charge had not been done yet and was full of mud. Thus, he stretched his body on the ground as a bridge letting the Buddha and his disciples walk on his back. Then, The Buddha predicted that Sumedha would become a Buddha in the future.
