Description of manuscript content:
This manuscript defines an explanation of the Buddha on meditation and kindness (Mettā) of Arahan monks who sacrificed their lives to protect other people. The Buddha gave an example of an Arahanta named Tissa. Tissa Thera visited the house of a jeweler for alms-food. He saw a bird taking a jewel in its mouth and swallowing it. The jeweler could not find the jewel and thought that Tissa Thera had stolen it. He hit the monk bloody. The monk did not tell the truth because he did not want the bird to be killed by the jeweler who would perhaps open its belly to take the jewel back. After that, the bird died, and the monk told him the truth. Then, Tissa thera reached Nibbāna.

May everybody behave meritoriously and avoid doing bad things so as to reach Nibbāna. Remark: Corresponding to 1916/17.
Other notes:
This manuscript is very big and thick. The front cover and the back cover are decorated with black lacquer and gilded with gold leaves. The inner part of the manuscript is slightly damaged by insects. Tracks of repairing and connecting torn-out pages are found. (The inner flyleaf) I put my hands together as a flower cone above my head to pay homage to the Buddha, the Dhamma, the Sangha, and my teachers who taught me. May the merit derived from producing this manuscript support us to be in good states of existence with longevity and opportunities to make merit. May I become a future Buddha who leads all beings to Nibbāna.
