One time, while residing at the Jetavanna monastery, the Buddha mentioned about a Kathina ceremony held by King Pasena, and told this story. In the rainy season, the king announced to his people that we should serve monks who have stayed in one place for three months during a Lent. He ordered a clever barber to cut white cloths for making a robe. Then the king brought the robe with other offerings to a monastery and organized the Kathina ceremony which was presided over by Venerable Kaccayana Thera.
