On one occasion, the Buddha was staying at the Nigodharam monastery in Kapilavatthu. Mahapajapati Gotami, the step-mother and maternal aunt of the Buddha, ordered a weaver man to make a robe in order to offer it the Buddha. When the robe was already for offering. She brought the robe to the Buddha with intention to offer him. But the Buddha told her to offer the robe to the Sangha. As the offering to the Sangha will gain much merit than to offer to the Buddha himself.
