The merit derived from offering Khao Salak (ticket-food: food to be distributed by tickets) to monks or the Sangha. The story is that while the Buddha was dwelling in the Jetavanna Monastery in Savatthi, he delivered a sermon to a king who donated offerings and khao salak to monks. The Buddha described that the merit to be derived from those who offer khao salak to monks is that they will reach the three states of happiness with Niravana as the ultimate.

The writing [of this manuscript] was finished in the morning between 7.30-9.00 o’clock. Mae Thao (grandmother) Khuen from Ban Paphai village was the principal initiator together with all her children and relatives who had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Sòng Khao Salak to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of five thousand years. May we all enter Nirvana, certainly. Nibbānaṃ paramaṃ sukhaṃ dhuvaṃ niccaṃ (Nirvana is the highest stage of happiness, certainly and perpetually).
