Description of manuscript content:
While residing in the Tavatimsa Heaven, the Buddha was asked for help by a Devaputta named Supatitthita who had learned from his friend that he would die within 7 days and be admitted to hell and then become various kinds of animals and be disabled, for 500 incarnations for each kind. The Buddha read him a sermon describing the bad Karma (bad deeds) from his previous lives. In order to ensure that he would be in heaven for a long time, the Buddha advised him to learn and recite a special spell named Unhassavijaya and because of its power, Supatithita has not left heaven until the present.
Colophon:
Folio 8 on the recto sides: In the Buddhist Era (BE) 2514, a huang khai year, on the ninth waning day of the eleventh [lunar] month, Wednesday. The writing [of this manuscript] was finished at the time of the morning drum (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Xiang (ex-novice) Di and Sao (Mrs.) Pan [from] Ban Vat Mai village had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Unhatsavisai to prolong the life of Buddhism until the end of 5000 years. May I be realesed from future and past demerits and all diseases. Sādhu nibbāna paccayo hotu anāgate kāle (Amen!, may this be a condition to reach Nirvāna in the future).
