Description of manuscript content:
The Thatsaphon, the ten blessings, is the first episode of the 13 episodes of the Vessantara Jataka which contains 16 fascicles. While residing in Kapilavatthu the Buddha delivered a sermon to his father, King Suddhadana, Princess Sakya and the Sangha. He described his last existence as Prince Vessantara and the story of his mother, Queen Phusati who was the queen of Indra. Before finishing her time in heaven for being born as a human being in the world, she asked Indra for the ten blessings and he gave her the ten blessings by pouring holy water on the palms of the queen’s hands.
Colophon:
Folio 19 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat (CS) 1286, a kap chai year, on the fifth waxing day of the sixth [lunar] month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing [of this manuscript] was finished at the time of the morning drum (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Phia Phaibunsavat, his orginal name called Thit (ex-monk) Pheng and his wife, Nang Phia Butdi [from] Ban Pakham village had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of [this manuscript entitled] Maha Vessandon Sadok (Vessantara Jataka) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this merit support us in this life and in our future lives. May this merit support usto escape from Saṃsāra (Cycle of birth) and [the disturbances of] the five Maras (the Evil Ones) of Aggregates, and reach Nirvāna in accordance with our wishes. Nibbāna paccayo hotu me anakhate kale (May this be a condition for me to reach Nirvāna in the future).
