Description of manuscript content:
While residing at the Buppharam Monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha spoke to King Pasendhi about the benefits derived from worshiping the flags of the Triple Gem. The Buddha gave an example. In the time of the Vipassi Buddha, a troubled couple with the most ardent religious faith in the Triple Gem made a flag in order to worship the Triple Gem. While making the flag, the husband suddenly died. Because of his faithful mind, he entered in Tavatimsa Heaven as a divinity and possessed many heavenly treasures.
Colophon:
Folio 6 on the verso side: The writing [of this manuscript] was finished at the time of the morning drum (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Ai (“elder brother”) Pan, may I share the merit with you, Ai Pan! Ai Pan is the sponsor for the making this first fascicle of [the manuscript entitled] Sòng Thung Lek (Benefits derived from donating a flag with iron sheets). Folio 7 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat [CS] 1284, a tao set year, on the seventh waxing day of the eighth [lunar] month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), the writing [of this manuscript] was finished at the time of the temple drum. Xiang (Mr, ex-novice) Pan and Sao (Mrs.) Buasi, Ban (village) Vat That had the religious faith to sponsor the making [of this manuscript entitled] Sòng Thung Lek, to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May all our wishes come true. Sādhu sādhu (Amen! Amen!).
