Description of manuscript content:
This is the ninth fascicle of the story of the Venerable Uppagupta Thera. The story is that in BE 218, King Asoka was celebrating his 84,000 stupas when Mara appeared who destined a heavy rain to disrupt the ceremony. Phra Uppagupta Thera, who was living in the underworld had suppressed Mara and they both were fighting each other with supernatural power. Finally, Mara was put under control. The Venerable tied Mara's neck with the carcass of a dog and tied him to Mount Sumeru until the celebration had fully finished. Then the Venerable gave Mara back his freedom.
