Description of manuscript content:
Thatsaphòn or the ten blessings is the first episode of the 13 episodes of the Vessantara Jataka which contains 16 fascicles in total. In the Buddha’s lifetime, while residing in Kapilavatthu, the Buddha delivered a sermon to his father, King Suddhodana, princes of the Sakya family and the Sangha. The Buddha described his last existence as Prince Vessantara and the story of his mother, Queen Phusati, who was the queen of God Indra. Before her time in the heaven was about to end to be reborn as a human in the world, she asked God Indra for the ten blessings. He gave her the ten blessings as she had requested and poured holy water on her palms.
