Description of manuscript content:
Himmaphan or Himavanta is the second of the 13 episodes of the Vessantara Jataka. The text describes Prince Vessantara’s birth, his marriage with Princess Maddī and their two beloved children: Jali and Kanha. Prince Vessantara was banished to the forest by the citizens of the Sivi because he gave away the invaluable white elephant of the city to the city of Kalingka. Maddī accompanied him to the forest. Then she described the region of the Himalaya as if she had already seen it.
