The whole text was written in Pali and read by monks or novices at the beginning of a Buddhist ceremony or festival, such as the Vessantara festival.
Colophon:
Folio 12 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat 177 (corresponding to CS 1177), a hap khai year, on the fourth day of the waning moon of the second-eighth [lunar] month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), a ka mao day, at the time of the evening horn (15:00–16:30), the writing of this manuscript was finished. I (Ms.) Khamtüm had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Phutthaphisek to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5 thousand years. May my wishes and desires be fulfilled. Nibbāna paccayo hotu no (May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana).
